On Fault and Responsibility
A recent theme as I learn how to Adult: Taking full responsibility for one's inheritance.
It's not my fault that I was traumatized, but it is my responsibility to ensure I don't pass that trauma along to others.
It's not my fault that I have a highly sensitive nervous & digestive system, but it is my responsibility to learn how to manage & heal it.
It's not my fault that I was born into a white body on stolen land, but it is my responsibility to educate myself about colonialism, and to help the fight for justice & reparations.
It's not my fault that I didn't receive healthy mentorship around sex/romance when I came of age, but it is my responsibility to act with intention & integrity in my relationships.
It's not my fault that I was born into a scarcity mindset around money, but it is my responsibility to learn to live abundantly and create abundance for those around me.
It's not my fault that I am a stumbling, flawed, selfish primate, but it is my responsibility to strive toward something better.
For so long, when asked to take responsibility for something, I would respond with, "But it's not my fault."
More and more, I'm learning that doesn't matter.
I'm here, and this is what I've got.
